Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 17/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A low pressure system on the southern New South Wales coast is expected to move southwards over eastern Bass Strait tonight to lie off the east coast of Tasmania on Wednesday and Thursday. A cold front crossing the Bight will reach western Victoria late on Wednesday morning and will be weakening as it extends further eastwards over the State in the afternoon and evening. Another weakening cold front is expected to cross southern Victoria on Thursday night then a high pressure ridge will develop over northern Victoria later on Friday and early Saturday with the main high pressure centre lying well to the north. A low pressure trough is expected to approach western Victoria late on Saturday.
Forecast for the rest of TuesdayRain areas over Gippsland, easing later in the evening. Scattered showers over remaining southern and mountain areas but mostly dry on the northern plains. The chance of thunderstorms at first in the east. Generally light winds inland but locally fresh southeast to easterly winds about the coast.Wednesday 18 SeptemberScattered showers, isolated in the far northwest. The chance of afternoon thunderstorms over central and eastern areas, mostly about the ranges. Snowfalls developing in Alpine areas later. A cool to mild day with light to moderate north to northwesterly winds tending moderate to fresh westerly during the afternoon.Thursday 19 SeptemberScattered showers over southern and mountain areas becoming isolated. Dry over the northwest. Snow on the Alpine areas down to 1200 metres in the morning. A cool and partly cloudy day with moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds, gradually easing.Friday 20 SeptemberIsolated showers over southern and mountain districts, scattered about the west coast and the eastern ranges. Cool and cloudy with light to moderate northwest to westerly wind.Saturday 21 SeptemberIsolated showers, particularly in the afternoon, locally scattered about the coast and northeast ranges. A mild to warm day with light to moderate northwest to northerly wind.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EST Wednesday.Product IDV10310
