Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 17/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A trough extends across Victoria to a low pressure system on the New South Wales Coast. The low will deepen and move southwards on Tuesday and is expected off the Gippsland coast early Wednesday, before moving southwards to lie east of Tasmania on Thursday. A cold front will cross the Bight on Tuesday to reach western Victoria on Wednesday morning although it will be weakening as it progresses across the east of the State later on Wednesday. Another weakening cold front is expected to cross southern Victoria on Friday.
Forecast for the rest of TuesdayLocal morning fog patches. Rain areas over the east contracting to Gippsland during the afternoon but isolated to scattered showers persisting elsewhere. Locally heavy falls over East Gippsland. The chance of thunderstorms over central and eastern districts, mainly in the afternoon. A mild day with light to moderate west to southwesterly winds extending to most districts during the day although fresh to strong easterly winds near the Gippsland coast.Wednesday 18 SeptemberScattered showers, isolated in the far northwest. The chance of thunderstorms. Snowfalls developing in Alpine areas later. A cool to mild day with light to moderate north to northwesterly winds tending moderate to fresh westerly during the afternoon.Thursday 19 SeptemberScattered showers over southern and mountain areas becoming isolated. Dry over the northwest. Snow on the Alpine areas down to 1200 metres in the morning. A cool and partly cloudy day with moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds, gradually easing.Friday 20 SeptemberIsolated showers over southern and mountain districts, scattered about the coast and ranges. Cool and cloudy with light to moderate northwesterly winds tending southwesterly.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Tuesday.Product IDV10310
