MELBOURNE - Sep 14/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A narrow ridge of high pressure to the east of Bass Strait will move slowly east, forming a high centre over the southern Tasman Sea during the weekend. A weak low pressure trough lingering over Victoria today is linked to a low pressure system well south of the Bight that will continue to decay as it moves off to the south overnight tonight and Sunday. A low pressure system will develop at the head of the Bight later today and early Sunday then move over South Australia during Sunday before slowly tracking across Victoria on Monday and Tuesday morning, finally deepening off the Gippsland coast later on Tuesday. The low pressure system is likely to move to the east of Tasmania on Wednesday as another trough moves across western Victoria later in the day. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayScattered showers about the eastern ranges and developing over the far southwest, isolated showers possible elsewhere near and south of the ranges. Showers mostly clearing at night. Generally light winds tending moderate east to northeasterly near the Gippsland coast.Sunday 15 SeptemberIsolated showers clearing from the far southeast during the morning. Areas of rain developing in the northwest by the afternoon then gradually extending across the western half of the State during the remainder of the afternoon and evening. Isolated thunderstorms possible in the far northwest from the late afternoon. A mild day with cloud increasing and light to moderate north to northeasterly winds.Monday 16 SeptemberRain over the west extending to the northeast during the morning and throughout by the evening. Rain easing to scattered showers over the northwest during the afternoon then clearing later. Isolated thunderstorms possible over the north and west. A generally cool to mild day with moderate to fresh northeast to northerly winds shifting southwesterly in the west in the late afternoon and evening.Tuesday 17 SeptemberRain areas clearing from the east in the morning but isolated showers persisting elsewhere. Showers increasing over the east during the afternoon with the chance of isolated thunderstorms over the northeast. A mild day with light to moderate westerly winds extending to most districts during the day although fresh to locally strong easterly winds persisting near the Gippsland coast into the afternoon.Wednesday 18 SeptemberIsolated showers over the east tending to rain about the northeast ranges. Showers increasing during the afternoon and extending elsewhere across the state apart from the far northwest. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms possible over the north.
