MELBOURNE - Sep 12/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Fire Weather Warning is current for parts of the Channel Country, Central West and Maranoa and Warrego districts. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high [1018 hPa] over the southeast Coral Sea extends a weak ridge along the northeast Queensland coast. A surface trough over the southwest is expected to move east into the central and southern interior during today and into the southeast on Saturday. Forecast for the rest of Friday Areas of cloud with isolated showers and thunderstorms over the southern half of the state, tending to scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the southeast interior late in the day. Fine though partly cloudy over the northern half of the state. A very warm to hot day. Moderate to fresh SE to NE winds across the Peninsula. Moderate NE to NW winds elsewhere ahead of a moderate to fresh and gusty SW change spreading across the west and southern interior. Severe fire danger in the eastern Channel Country, southern Central West and western Maranoa and Warrego districts. Very High fire dangers in the remaining western, southern and central districts. Forecast for Saturday The surface trough will move east into the central interior and southeast of the state. Cloudy with morning drizzle patches and isolated showers in the southeast of the state. The unstable air mass ahead of the trough is expected to bring early showers and possible thunderstorms to the southern inland border areas, with isolated afternoon and evening showers and gusty thunderstorms near and ahead of the trough over southeast districts, contracting offshore with the trough overnight. It should be fine and mostly sunny across the rest of the state with maximum temperatures remaining well above the September average. Forecast for Sunday A surface and upper trough are expected to approach the southwest of the state during the afternoon and evening. Cloud should increase with patchy rain and high based thunderstorms spreading east across western and southern Queensland during the day, increasing over the far southwest later in the day and at night. Hot, fresh and gusty NW'ly winds with enhanced fire dangers are expected over the west, as well as the southern and central interior ahead of the trough. Continuing fine and mostly sunny across the rest of the state with maximum temperatures remaining well above the September average. Forecast for Monday The surface and upper trough are expected to move east across the southern interior during the day, reaching the southeast during the evening and bringing areas of rain, showers and thunderstorms; likely to be more widespread over southern districts. Hot, fresh and gusty NW'ly winds with enhanced fire dangers are expected over the southern and central interior of the state ahead of the trough. Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday The upper trough is expected to move offshore on Tuesday with patchy rain, showers and thunderstorms over central and southeast districts contracting east and offshore by late in the day. Cloud should increase over the southwest on Thursday with the approach of the next upper trough. Fine and mostly sunny conditions should occur over remaining parts of the state. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Friday.
