MELBOURNE - Sep 12/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure ridge over eastern Victoria will move eastwards over the Tasman Sea on Friday. A low pressure trough over South Australia to reach northwestern Victoria on Friday but it will then tend to weaken out as it crosses northern Victoria on Saturday. A low pressure system will develop at the head of the Bight on Saturday before moving towards western Victoria on Sunday and across central parts of the the State on Monday. Forecast for the rest of FridayEarly frost patches over central and eastern districts. Areas of rain in the northwest gradually extending southeastwards during the day but only patchy light rain reaching the Central district and Gippsland later in the afternoon and evening. Isolated thunderstorms developing, mostly on and north of the dividing range. The rain easing to isolated showers over the northwest late this afternoon. Snowfalls developing above 1700 metres in Alpine regions this afternoon. Generally cool to cold and mostly cloudy although milder in the far northwest. Light to moderate northeasterly winds, fresh near the coast.Saturday 14 SeptemberScattered showers in southern and eastern areas. Isolated showers possible elsewhere. Cool to mild and mostly cloudy with generally light winds tending fresh east to northeasterly near the Gippsland coast.Sunday 15 SeptemberIsolated showers clearing from the southeast during the morning. Areas of rain developing in the northwest during the morning before extending southeastwards during the day. A cool to mild and mostly cloudy day with a light to moderate northeasterly wind.Monday 16 SeptemberRain across most districts.
