MELBOURNE - Sep 11/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation The northern tip of a low pressure trough and associated cold air mass will cross Gippsland Thursday morning then a high pressure ridge over the west of the State will move eastwards across the remainder of the State in the afternoon and evening, reaching the Tasman Sea on Friday. A low pressure trough will cross South Australia to reach northwestern Victoria on Friday but it will then tend to weaken out as it crosses northern Victoria on Saturday. A low pressure system will develop at the head of the Bight on Saturday before moving towards western Victoria on Sunday. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayMorning fog patches in the north. Scattered showers over southern and mountain areas becoming isolated from the west and contracting to Gippsland during the afternoon. Snowfalls down to 900 metres. Local small hail in the southeast. Patchy rain developing over the northwest later in the day or at night. A cool and partly cloudy day with light to moderate southwest to southerly winds tending east to southeasterly in the afternoon and evening.Friday 13 SeptemberAreas of rain and isolated thunderstorms extending southeastwards during the day. Rain tending to isolated showers in the northwest during the afternoon. Cool and mostly cloudy with light to moderate northeasterly winds, fresh near the coast.Saturday 14 SeptemberScattered showers in southern and eastern areas. Isolated showers possible elsewhere. Cool to mild and mostly cloudy with generally light winds tending fresh east to northeasterly near the Gippsland coast.Sunday 15 SeptemberIsolated showers clearing from the southeast during the morning. Areas of rain developing in the northwest during the morning before extending southeastwards during the day.
