MELBOURNE - Sep 8/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A small high pressure system over Victoria will move rapidly east on Sunday night. A low pressure system over Bight waters will move southeastwards passing southern Tasmania on Monday night. An associated trough will move through Victoria later on Monday and early Tuesday morning. A cool west to southwesterly airstream will be established across Victoria on Tuesday and will be reinforced early Wednesday the passage of a cold front over southern Victoria. A high pressure ridge is expected to move over Victoria on Thursday with the main high pressure centre developing to the southwest of Tasmania. Forecast for the rest of SundayIsolated showers possible over the southwest but fine elsewhere. Areas of high cloud and light winds tending northeasterly.Monday 9 SeptemberA generally dry morning with warm northerly wind strengthening over southern an elevated areas. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms developing over southern and mountain districts later in the afternoon ahead of a cooler gusty westerly change. Showers increasing about the southwest coast and the northeast highlands in the evening.Tuesday 10 SeptemberScattered showers in southern and mountain districts. The chance of thunderstorms near the coast late in the day and evening. Mostly fine over the northern plains with isolated showers possible. Snowfalls developing down to 1300 metres on the ranges. Cool with a moderate to fresh west to southwesterly wind, strong about the coast.Wednesday 11 SeptemberScattered showers in southern and mountain districts and isolated showers developing on the northern plains. Snowfalls in Alpine regions above 1200 metres. Cool to cold with a moderate to fresh west to southwesterly wind, strong at times about the coast.Thursday 12 SeptemberIsolated showers in southern areas clearing during the morning but isolated showers developing in the far west later in the afternoon and evening.
