Strait to Double Island Point.
A Strong Wind Warning for Gulf of Carpentaria waters north of Kowanyama.

Weather Situation
A large slow moving high [1034 hPa] east of Tasmania extends a firm ridge
along the east Queensland coast. The high is expected to gradually weaken during
the next couple of days, and move northwards to lie over southeast Queensland on
Thursday. An upper level trough lies over the Coral Sea and across the northern
tropics.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Cloudy periods with isolated showers about the east coast and adjacent
inland, tending to scattered showers about the North Tropical Coast. Fine and
mostly clear over the remainder of the state. Fresh and gusty southeasterly
winds along the east coast, strong at times north from Fraser Island. Moderate
to locally fresh southeast to northeasterly winds elsewhere. A Very High Fire
Danger in most northern and western districts, decreasing during the evening.
Forecast for Thursday
Cloudy periods with isolated showers about the east coast and adjacent inland
north from about Gympie, tending to scattered showers about the North Tropical
Coast. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. A cool morning in the southeast inland
with early frost patches about parts of the Darling Downs and Granite Belt and
far southern Burnett. Fresh to strong and gusty southeasterly winds along the
east coast north of St Lawrence. Moderate to locally fresh and gusty southeast
to northeasterly winds elsewhere. A Very High fire danger in all western
districts, most northern districts, and the Central Highlands and Coalfields
district.
Forecast for Friday
The high pressure system is expected to move east and become slow moving over
the northern Tasman Sea with the firm ridge remaining in place along the east
coast, though the ridge will relax in the south. Fresh to strong and gusty
southeasterly winds are expected to continue about the tropical coast. Isolated
showers are likely to continue along the east coast north of Fraser Island. An
upper level trough moving over the Queensland tropics will produce some weak
instability and generally scattered showers about the tropical east coast and
ranges, with an enhancement of this shower activity over the North Tropical
Coast and Atherton Tablelands in particular. It should remain fine and mostly
sunny elsewhere, though some high cloud may develop over the southwest. A cool
morning in the southeast inland with early frost patches about parts of the
Darling Downs and Granite Belt and far southern Burnett.
Forecast for Saturday
The high will remain slow moving over the northern Tasman Sea while
continuing to weaken, with the ridge of high pressure along the tropical east
coast slowly relaxing. This will lead to an easing in the southeasterly trade
winds along the east coast south of about Cooktown, although strong winds are
likely to continue over coastal waters to the north. Isolated showers are likely
to continue about the coast and adjacent inland north of about Yeppoon, tending
scattered about the coast and ranges north of about Ingham and generally most
frequent about the North Tropical Coast and Tablelands. It should remain fine
and mostly sunny elsewhere, apart from some high cloud areas over the south. A
warm day in the south.
Forecast for Sunday
The high is expected to remain slow moving over the northern Tasman Sea while
continuing to weaken, with the ridge of high pressure along the tropical east
coast continuing to relax. This will lead to an easing in the strong
southeasterly trade winds along the east coast north of Cooktown, although
moderate to fresh southeasterly winds are likely to continue along the tropical
coast. Isolated showers are likely to continue about the coast and adjacent
inland north of about Yeppoon, tending scattered about the coast and ranges
north of about Ingham. It should remain fine and mostly sunny elsewhere, apart
from some high cloud areas over the south. A warm day in the south.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
The high will gradually weaken and move slowly eastwards during the outlook
period, with the ridge and onshore winds along the tropical east coast to
gradually weaken. Isolated showers along the tropical coast are therefore
expected to contract to the far northern tropics on Tuesday and Wednesday. A
trough is expected to move across western and southern Queensland during
Tuesday, with an increase in temperatures, winds and fire danger expected ahead
of a cooler gusty southwesterly wind change behind the trough. Instability and
cloud is expected to increase near and ahead of the trough over southern
Queensland but little or no significant precipitation is expected at this stage.
The trough is expected to move offshore during Wednesday, with a ridge spreading
across the state in its wake and a gusty southerly change moving north along the
southeast Queensland coast with possible showers.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Thursday.
