MELBOURNE - Sep 2/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Fire Weather Warning for the Gulf Country, North West and Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders districts for Tuesday. A Strong Wind Warning is current for east coastal waters from Torres Strait to Double Island Point, and Gulf of Carpentaria waters north of Weipa. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A large slow moving high [1033 hPa] near New Zealand extends a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast, that will persist over the next few days. Forecast for the rest of Monday Isolated showers about the northeast coast and also about exposed parts of the central and southeast coast. Fine and mostly clear elsewhere. Moderate to fresh southeast winds along the east coast, tending moderate southeast to northeast inland. A Very High fire danger in the Gulf Country, North West and Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders districts, easing in the evening. Forecast for Tuesday Isolated showers along the east coast, tending scattered about the North Tropical Coast. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state. Temperatures remaining generally above the September average, particularly in the southwest. Fresh southeasterly winds along the eat coast, strong and gusty at times north of Fraser Island, mostly moderate east to northeasterly winds inland. A Very High Fire Danger over most northern and western districts, becoming Severe over the northwest of the state. Forecast for Wednesday The high will remain slow moving over the southern Tasman Sea, maintaining the firm ridge and fresh to strong southeasterly winds along the east Queensland coast and through the northeastern Gulf of Carpentaria. Isolated showers and mild temperatures are expected over eastern districts in the moist, onshore wind flow, with showers remaining scattered about the North Tropical Coast. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected over the remainder of the state, with temperatures remaining generally above the September average, particularly in the southwest. Forecast for Thursday The high in the Tasman Sea will shift slowly northwards towards northeastern New south Wales while weakening slightly, but will maintain the firm ridge along the Queensland east coast. Fresh to strong southeasterly winds will continue along the east Queensland coast and through the northeastern Gulf of Carpentaria. Isolated showers and mild temperatures are expected over eastern districts in the moist, onshore wind flow, with showers remaining scattered about the North Tropical Coast. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected over the remainder of the state, with temperatures remaining generally above the September average, particularly in the southwest. Possible morning frost areas about the southern Darling Downs and Granite Belt. Forecast for Friday The high pressure system will become slow-moving over southeastern Queensland, with the firm ridge remaining in place along the east coast. Isolated showers are likely along the east coast north of Fraser Island, and an upper level trough moving northwards over the Queensland tropics will produce some weak instability and an enhancement of the shower activity over the North Tropical Coast and Atherton Tablelands. It should remain fine and mostly sunny inland, although some high cloud may develop over the southwest. Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday The high will gradually weaken and move slowly eastwards into the far southern Coral Sea during the outlook period, with the ridge along the east Queensland coast will therefore gradually weakening, and strong southeasterly winds and isolated showers contracting north over east coastal districts as a result. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will persist over the interior of the state under the influence of a dry and stable airmass. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Tuesday.
