Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 1/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Fire Weather Warning has been issued for the Channel
Country, North West and Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders districts.
A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for coastal waters from Torres Strait to
Cape Moreton, and north of Weipa in the Northeast Gulf.

Weather Situation
A large slow moving high to the southeast of New Zealand extends a firm ridge
along the east tropical Queensland coast. A surface trough over southern
Queensland is moving slowly northwards, and will weaken during Monday.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Isolated light showers over the northeastern tropics. Isolated showers in the
southeast, mostly through the Wide Bay and Burnett district. Fine and mostly
clear elsewhere. Moderate to fresh northwest to northeasterly winds over
southern and wester Queensland. Moderate to fresh southeast to northeast winds
elsewhere. A Severe fire danger in the North West and Northern Goldfields and
Upper Flinders districts. Very High fire dangers in the Channel Country, Central
West, and Maranoa and Warrego districts.
Forecast for Monday
Isolated showers about the east coast, mostly through the tropics. Fine and
mostly sunny elsewhere. A hot day through western and southern districts with
moderate to fresh southeast to northeasterly winds, gusty through the northwest
of the state. Moderate to fresh southeast winds elsewhere, strong and gusty at
times about the coast. A Severe fire danger in the Channel Country, North West
and Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders districts. Very High fire dangers in
the Central West, Gulf Country, Central Highlands and Coalfields, Capricornia,
Maranoa and Warrego, and Peninsula districts.
Forecast for Tuesday
The surface trough over the southern Coral Sea will shift north and weaken. A
new high is expected to move into the southern Tasman Sea and strengthen,
extending a firm ridge and fresh to strong southeasterly winds along the east
Queensland coast and through the northeastern Gulf of Carpentaria. Isolated
showers and cooler temperatures are expected over eastern districts in the
moist, onshore wind flow, with showers tending scattered about the North
Tropical Coast due to the presence of a weak upper trough. Fine and mostly sunny
conditions are expected over the remainder of the state, with temperatures
remaining generally above the September average, particularly in the
southwest.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high will remain slow moving over the southern Tasman Sea, maintaining
the firm ridge and fresh to strong southeasterly winds along the east Queensland
coast and through the northeastern Gulf of Carpentaria. Isolated showers and
cooler temperatures are expected over eastern districts in the moist, onshore
wind flow, with showers remaining scattered about the North Tropical Coast. Fine
and mostly sunny conditions are expected  over the remainder of the state, with
temperatures remaining generally above the September average, particularly in
the southwest. Possible morning frost areas about the southern Darling Downs and
Granite Belt.
Forecast for Thursday
The high in the Tasman Sea will shift slowly northwards while weakening
slightly, but maintaining the firm ridge along the Queensland east coast. Fresh
to strong southeasterly winds will continue along the east Queensland coast and
through the northeastern Gulf of Carpentaria. Isolated showers and cooler
temperatures are expected over eastern districts in the moist, onshore wind
flow, with showers remaining scattered about the North Tropical Coast. Fine and
mostly sunny conditions are expected  over the remainder of the state, with
temperatures remaining generally above the September average, particularly in
the southwest. Possible morning frost areas about the southern Darling Downs and
Granite Belt.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The high in the Tasman Sea will gradually weaken throughout the outlook
period, whilst a new high will move east across the Great Australian Bight. The
ridge along the east Queensland coast will therefore gradually relax, with
strong southeasterly winds and isolated showers contracting north over east
coastal districts as a result. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will persist
over the interior of the state under the influence of a dry and stable airmass.
Minimum temperatures will cool over eastern and central districts, with possible
early light frost over the Darling Downs and Granite Belt district.
