MELBOURNE - Aug 30/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high in the Tasman Sea extends a ridge over eastern Queensland. The high will become slow moving near New Zealand over the weekend and strengthen, maintaining a firm ridge along the east coast. A surface trough will move eastwards across central Australia tomorrow and approach far southwestern Queensland. Forecast for the rest of Friday Fine and clear across most of the state with only isolated showers in the northeast tropics. Light to moderate northwest to northeasterly winds for most parts with moderate southeast to northeasterly winds through the northern tropics. A Very High fire danger over the Channel Country and the Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders districts. Forecast for Saturday Fine and mostly sunny for much of the state with only isolated showers about the northeastern tropics. Early fog patches are expected through eastern districts. Some high cloud will move eastwards across the south of the state but no significant rainfall is expected. Warm to hot conditions will continue through western and southern districts in the northeast to northwesterly wind flow ahead of the trough. Mostly moderate northwest to northeast winds, fresh and gusty at times in the southwest. Moderate southeast winds through the northeast tropics. A Severe fire danger in the Channel Country district and Very High fire dangers in the Central West, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders and Maranoa and Warrego Districts. Forecast for Sunday The high is expected to remain slow moving near New Zealand, maintaining the ridge along the east coast. Fresh to strong southeasterly winds will persist about the east tropical coast with isolated showers expected in the onshore wind flow. A trough will move north through southeast districts during the day, generating isolated showers with isolated thunderstorms about the Wide Bay and Burnett district and northern parts of the Southeast Coast district. Some cloud will persist through the southern interior though with no rainfall expected due to a continuing dry airmass. It will be yet another warm to hot day through the state, particularly through the southern interior. Fire dangers should not be as enhanced as Saturday however due to lighter winds. Forecast for Monday The trough will move north into the southern tropics while a new high will shift east over southeastern Australia, maintaining a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast. Fresh southeasterly winds will extend along the east tropical coast, strong at times north of about Cairns and through the northeastern Gulf of Carpentaria. Isolated showers will persist about the northeastern tropics in the onshore wind flow. Mostly fine conditions are expected elsewhere along the east coast apart from the chance of isolated showers near Fraser Island and the Capricorn and central coasts. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected over the interior with temperatures generally remaining well above the September average. Forecast for Tuesday The high is expected to move into the southern Tasman Sea and strengthen, maintaining a firm ridge along the east coast of Queensland. Isolated showers are expected along the east coast and adjacent inland, tending scattered about the North Tropical Coast in the strengthening onshore flow. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state. Remaining very warm over the interior but temperatures should be close to average about the east coast in the onshore flow. Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday The high in the Tasman Sea will gradually weaken through the outlook period, whilst a new high will move east across the Great Australian Bight. Onshore winds will persist about the east coast with isolated showers about most of the east coast on Wednesday. Isolated showers should then contract northwards into the central and northern east coast during Thursday and Friday. Fine and mostly sunny over the interior.
