MELBOURNE - Aug 24/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system at the head of the Bight will move over southern NSW during the weekend then over the Tasman Sea on Monday. The tail end of a cold front will cross Tasmania on Sunday. A low pressure trough will cross the Bight on Monday then move through southwestern Victoria late on Tuesday before weakening. The next high pressure system will extend a ridge across Tasmania on Wednesday as a low pressure system develops over South Australia. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayIsolated showers or drizzle, mainly about the northeast ranges and the southwest. Light west to northwesterly winds.Sunday 25 AugustPatchy drizzle about the dividing range, falling as snow on the Alpine peaks and scattered showers about the southwest coast. Mostly dry elsewhere. Morning fog patches in the north and east. A cool to mild and mostly cloudy day with light to moderate west to northwesterly winds, fresh about elevated areas.Monday 26 AugustAreas of morning fog in the north. Isolated drizzle over the northeast, falling as snow on the Alpine peaks and clearing in the afternoon. Dry over the remainder. A generally mild day with light to moderate west to northwesterly winds.Tuesday 27 AugustAreas of morning fog over the northeast. Morning showers possible about the south Gippsland coast and isolated showers developing in the west from the afternoon. Otherwise a mild and partly cloudy day with light to moderate northerly winds tending southerly in the southwest.Wednesday 28 AugustIsolated showers over most districts, tending to scattered about the northeast ranges and parts of the coast.
