Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 24/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning is current for waters between Torres
Strait and Cape Melville for later today.

Weather Situation
A high moving east over southern Australia extends a ridge across southern
Queensland. The high is expected to move east across southern Australia over the
weekend and into the Tasman Sea late on Sunday.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Isolated showers about northern parts of the Peninsula district. Fine and
sunny elsewhere. Light to moderate southwest to southeast winds, fresh and gusty
at times about the northwest of the state and for coastal areas of the Peninsula
district. A Very High fire danger in the Gulf Country, North West and Northern
Goldfields and Upper Flinders districts.
Forecast for Sunday
The high should move slowly east and into the Tasman Sea late in the day. The
high will extend a ridge along the east coast of Queensland. Moderate to fresh
southeast winds should extend along most of the east coast with isolated light
showers developing about the exposed parts of the east coast, mainly south of
about Bundaberg. The remainder of the state should remain fine and mostly sunny.
Areas of frost are likely to persist about parts of the southern and southeast
interior.
Forecast for Monday
The high will continue to move slowly eastwards across the Tasman Sea and
maintain a weak ridge along the east coast of Queensland. Isolated showers are
expected about much of the east coast and adjacent eastern districts north of
the Sunshine Coast in the onshore flow. The remainder of the state should be
fine and mostly sunny. Maximum temperatures should increase to a few degrees
above average across the south of the state. Isolated frost patches are possible
about the Granite Belt and parts of the Maranoa district.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high will continue to move slowly eastwards across the Tasman Sea and
maintain a weak ridge along the east coast of Queensland. Isolated showers are
expected about much of the east coast and adjacent eastern districts north of
about Bundaberg in the onshore flow. The remainder of the state should be fine
and mostly sunny. Maximum temperatures should increase further through southern
Queensland.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
The high will move slowly eastwards across the Tasman Sea during the outlook
period whilst weakening.  Isolated showers are likely for the northern east
coast in the onshore flow. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected
elsewhere. Maximum temperatures are expected to remain above average over the
interior during the period.

Saturday.
