MELBOURNE - Aug 23/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Strong Wind Warning is current for Southeast Gulf of Carpentaria waters. A Fire Weather Warning is current for the Gulf Country district, west of Normanton. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high moving east over southern Australia extends a firm ridge across most of Queensland. Forecast for the rest of Friday Isolated showers are expected to continue about the northern and eastern tropics, scattered about the North Tropical Coast. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected elsewhere. A cool to cold morning for western, central and southeastern districts with widespread frosts over parts of the central, southern and southeast interior. Mostly moderate southwest to southeast winds, fresh and gusty at times about the northwest and southeast of the state. A Very High fire danger in the Gulf Country, reaching Severe west of Normanton. A Very High fire danger in the Central Highlands and Coalfields and Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders districts. Forecast for Saturday The high should move eastwards into New South Wales, maintaining a ridge across much of the state. Isolated showers should occur in the onshore flow about the far northern tropics, otherwise fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected elsewhere. A cool to cold morning for western, central and southeastern districts with areas of frost over parts of the central, southern and southeast interior. Forecast for Sunday The high should remain slow moving over southeast Australia extending a ridge along the east coast of Queensland. Moderate to fresh southeast winds should extend along most of the east coast with isolated showers likely to develop about the east coast, mainly south of about Bundaberg. The remainder of the state should remain fine and mostly sunny. Areas of frost are likely to persist about parts of the southern and southeast interior. Forecast for Monday The high will continue to move slowly eastwards across the Tasman Sea and maintain a weak ridge along the east coast of Queensland. Isolated showers are expected about much of the east coast and adjacent eastern districts north of the Sunshine Coast in the onshore flow. The remainder of the state should be fine and mostly sunny. Maximum temperatures should increase to a few degrees above average across the south of the state. Isolated frost patches are possible about the Granite Belt and parts of the Maranoa district. Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday The high will move slowly eastwards across the Tasman Sea during the outlook period whilst weakening. Isolated showers are likely about most of the east coast in the southeasterly flow. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected elsewhere. Maximum temperatures are expected to increase to above average over the interior during the period. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Friday.
