Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 21/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for Southeast Gulf of
Carpentaria waters for Thursday morning.
A Fire Weather Warning is current for the Gulf Country district, west of
Normanton for Thursday.

Weather Situation
A high [1025 hPa] over South Australia extends a firm ridge across most of
Queensland and a new high will move into southern Western Australia on Thursday
maintaining the ridge across the south of the state. A weak upper trough will
move east across the state tomorrow.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Fine and clear conditions across most of the state with only some patchy
cloud and very isolated showers across the tropics. Mostly light to moderate
southeast to northeasterly winds along the north tropical coast. Mostly light
southwest to southeast winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Thursday
Isolated showers over the northern and eastern tropics, increasing to
scattered showers about the North Tropical Coast and Herbert and Lower Burdekin
districts in the afternoon and evening. The next high over southwestern
Australia should extend a ridge over western Queensland in the wake of the
trough. Remaining fine and mostly sunny elsewhere with widespread areas of frost
over the central, southern and southeast interior. A cool to cold morning for
southern and central districts. A Very High fire danger in the Gulf Country,
reaching Severe west of Normanton. A Very High fire danger in the Northwest and
Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders districts. Moderate southwest to
southeast winds, fresh and gusty at times about the west of the state.
Forecast for Friday
The new high should move eastwards into South Australia, continuing to extend
a ridge across much of the state. Isolated showers are expected to continue
about the northern and eastern tropics. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are
expected elsewhere. A cool to cold morning for western, central and southeastern
districts with widespread frosts over parts of the central, southern and
southeast interior.
Forecast for Saturday
The high should move eastwards into New South Wales, maintaining a ridge
across much of the state. Isolated showers should occur in the onshore flow
about the northeast tropics, otherwise fine and mostly sunny conditions are
expected elsewhere. A cool to cold morning for western, central and southeastern
districts with areas of frost over parts of the central, southern and southeast
interior.
Forecast for Sunday
The high should remain slow moving over southeast Australia extending a ridge
along the east coast of Queensland. Moderate to fresh southeast winds should
extend along most of the east coast with isolated showers likely to develop
about the east coast, mainly south of about Bundaberg. The remainder of the
state should remain fine and mostly sunny. Areas of frost are likely to persist
about parts of the central, southern and southeast interior.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
The high will move slowly east into the Tasman Sea during the outlook period.
Scattered showers are expected over the Cassowary Coast early next week as the
onshore flow increases. Isolated showers are also likely about most of the east
coast in the southeasterly flow. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected
elsewhere. Minimum temperatures should gradually return to average with frost
becoming restricted to the Granite Belt on Monday. Maximum temperatures are
expected to increase to above average over the interior during the period.
