MELBOURNE - Aug 21/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system at the head of the Bight extends a weak ridge across New South Wales. A cold front will reach southwest Victoria tonight before sweeping through the remainder of the State on Thursday morning. Another front is likely to follow across southern Victoria early Friday as the next high pressure system develops over the head of the Bight. This high pressure system will move over southern NSW on Saturday. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayEarly morning frost and fog inland. Isolated showers near the coast and northeast ranges falling as snow above 900 metres, mostly clearing during the morning. Isolated showers developing over the west and north during the afternoon and tending to areas of rain over the southwest. A generally cool day with northwesterly winds freshening from the west.Thursday 22 AugustAreas of rain clearing eastern districts in the morning. Scattered showers to follow, tending more widespread near the central and western coasts and the northeast ranges. Only isolated showers over the northwest. Snow above 1100 metres. A cool day with moderate to fresh northwesterly winds, strong about the eastern ranges. Winds tending moderate to fresh westerly from the west during the morning, locally strong near the coast.Friday 23 AugustScattered showers over the central and western coasts and the northeast ranges. Isolated showers elsewhere. Showers falling as snow above 1200 metres. A cool to mild day with moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds, strong at times along parts of the coast.Saturday 24 AugustIsolated showers near and south of the ranges clearing in the afternoon. Showers falling as snow above 1500 metres.
