Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 19/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Fire Weather Warning has been issued for western parts of
the Gulf Country District for today.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A weak high [1016 hPa] over the southern Coral Sea is expected to move slowly
eastwards, maintaining a weak ridge onto the north tropical coast of Queensland.
A surface trough extends from the Gulf Country to off the Herbert and Lower
Burdekin coast and is expected to continue moving offshore during the morning. A
high [1027 hPa] over the Great Australian Bight extends a ridge across western
and southern Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Some high cloud over the west of the state, otherwise fine and sunny for the
remainder of the state. Mostly light to moderate southeast to northeasterly
winds along the north tropical coast. Mostly moderate to fresh and gusty
southwest to southeasterly winds elsewhere. Severe Fire Danger in the western
Gulf Country district, with a Very High Fire Danger across most remaining
districts.
Forecast for Wednesday
A ridge across southern Queensland should bring fine and mostly sunny
conditions to much of the state. A cool to cold morning in central and southern
districts with more widespread frost areas over inland areas. Some high cloud
should spread over the southern tropics but no rainfall is expected at this
stage. Temperatures are expected to be cooler than the August average for
southern and southeast districts.
Forecast for Thursday
A weak surface trough and accompanying upper trough is expected to move east
across the state during the day and is likely to generate at least isolated
showers over the eastern tropics. The next high over southwestern Australia
should extend a ridge over western Queensland in the wake of the trough.
Remaining fine and mostly sunny elsewhere with widespread areas of frost over
the central, southern and southeast interior. A cool to cold morning for
southern and central districts.
Forecast for Friday
The high should move eastwards into South Australia extending a ridge across
much of the state. Isolated showers should occur in the onshore flow about the
northeast tropics, otherwise fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected
elsewhere. A cool to cold morning for western, central and southeastern
districts with widespread frosts over parts of the central, southern and
southeast interior.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
A ridge of high pressure and dry southwest to southeasterly winds should
prevail across much of the state during the outlook period as the high move
slowly across southern Australia. Isolated showers are likely to persist over
the northeast tropics due to an onshore airflow, and may spread further
southwards to the central Queensland coast by late in weekend. Isolated showers
are also likely to develop along the exposed southern Queensland coast from
Sunday as a trough and low pressure system moves over the Tasman Sea and brings
increasing south to southeasterly winds. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are
expected otherwise, with cool to cold minimum temperatures and early frosts over
the southern, central and southeastern interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Tuesday.
