MELBOURNE - Aug 19/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A deep low pressure system well south of Tasmania will continue to move further south today while a ridge of high pressure develops over the Bight. The ridge will move across northwest Victoria late today. A cold front will reach southwest Victoria on Wednesday night before sweeping through the remainder of the State Thursday morning. Another front is likely to follow across southern Victoria early Friday as the next high pressure system develops over the head of the Bight. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayScattered showers over southern and mountain districts, isolated over the northern plains in the afternoon. Showers falling as snow above 500 metres. Local hail possible, mainly near the coast. A cool to cold day with moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds.Wednesday 21 AugustEarly morning frost and fog inland. Isolated showers near the coast and northeast ranges falling as snow above 800 metres, mostly clearing during the morning. Showers increasing over the southwest during the afternoon, possibly extending to central districts late in the day. A generally cool day with north to northwesterly winds freshening from the west.Thursday 22 AugustScattered showers tending more widespread near the central and western coasts and the northeast ranges. Showers more isolated over the northwest. Snow above 1100 metres. A cool day with moderate westerly winds, fresh to strong in the south.Friday 23 AugustScattered showers over the central and western coasts and the northeast ranges. Isolated showers elsewhere. Showers falling as snow above 1100 metres, rising to above 1400 metres by evening.
