Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A weak high [1016 hPa] over the southern Coral Sea is expected to move slowly
eastwards, maintaining a weak ridge onto the tropical east coast of Queensland.
A surface trough extends from the Gulf Country to southeast Queensland and
should move slowly eastwards during this evening. A ridge of high pressure
extends across western Queensland in the wake of the trough.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Mostly fine with only isolated showers over parts of central Queensland and
over the southeast north from about the Sunshine Coast. Isolated light showers
about far northern Cape York Peninsula. Light to moderate southeast to
northeasterly winds across the north, fresh at times over Cape York Peninsula.
Light to moderate northwest to northeasterly winds along the remaining east
coast. Moderate to locally fresh and gusty southwest to southeasterly winds over
the interior. A Very High fire danger across all western districts, the Northern
Goldfields and Upper Flinders, Central Highlands and Coalfields, Darling Downs
and Granite Belt and Southeast Coast forecast districts.
Forecast for Tuesday
Isolated showers about the east coast of Cape York Peninsula. Becoming cloudy
over the far west late, otherwise fine and sunny for the remainder of the state.
Cool daytime temperatures in the southern interior. Mostly moderate to fresh and
gusty southwest to southeasterly winds. A Very High Fire Danger across all
central and southeastern districts.
Forecast for Wednesday
A weak high over southern Queensland should bring fine and mostly sunny
conditions to much of the state. A cool to cold morning in central and southern
districts with more widespread frost areas over inland areas. Some high cloud
should spread over the southern tropics but no rainfall is expected at this
stage. Temperatures are expected to be cooler than the August average for
southern and southeast districts.
Forecast for Thursday
A weak surface trough and accompanying upper trough is expected to move east
across the state during the day and is likely to generate at least isolated
showers over the eastern tropics. The next high over southwestern Australia
should extend a ridge over western Queensland in the wake of the trough.
Remaining fine and mostly sunny elsewhere with widespread areas of frost over
the central, southern and southeast interior. A cool to cold morning for
southern and central districts.
Forecast for Friday
The high should move eastwards into central Australia extending a ridge
across much of the state. Some isolated showers should occur in the onshore flow
about the North Tropical Coast, otherwise fine and sunny conditions are expected
elsewhere. A cool to cold morning for western, central and southeastern
districts with widespread frosts over parts of the central, southern and
southeastern interior.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
A ridge of high pressure and dry southwest to southeasterly winds should
prevail across much of the state during the outlook period as the high move
slowly across southern Australia. Isolated showers are likely to persist over
the northeast tropics due to an onshore airflow, and may spread further
southwards to the central Queensland coast by late in weekend. Fine and mostly
sunny conditions are expected otherwise, with cool to cold minimum temperatures
and early frosts over the southern, central and southeastern interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Tuesday.
