MELBOURNE - Aug 19/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A weak high [1016 hPa] over the southern Coral Sea is expected to move slowly eastwards, maintaining a weak ridge onto the tropical east coast of Queensland. A surface trough extends from the Gulf Country to southeast Queensland and should move slowly eastwards during this evening. A ridge of high pressure extends across western Queensland in the wake of the trough. Forecast for the rest of Monday Mostly fine with only isolated showers over parts of central Queensland and over the southeast north from about the Sunshine Coast. Isolated light showers about far northern Cape York Peninsula. Light to moderate southeast to northeasterly winds across the north, fresh at times over Cape York Peninsula. Light to moderate northwest to northeasterly winds along the remaining east coast. Moderate to locally fresh and gusty southwest to southeasterly winds over the interior. A Very High fire danger across all western districts, the Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, Central Highlands and Coalfields, Darling Downs and Granite Belt and Southeast Coast forecast districts. Forecast for Tuesday Isolated showers about the east coast of Cape York Peninsula. Becoming cloudy over the far west late, otherwise fine and sunny for the remainder of the state. Cool daytime temperatures in the southern interior. Mostly moderate to fresh and gusty southwest to southeasterly winds. A Very High Fire Danger across all central and southeastern districts. Forecast for Wednesday A weak high over southern Queensland should bring fine and mostly sunny conditions to much of the state. A cool to cold morning in central and southern districts with more widespread frost areas over inland areas. Some high cloud should spread over the southern tropics but no rainfall is expected at this stage. Temperatures are expected to be cooler than the August average for southern and southeast districts. Forecast for Thursday A weak surface trough and accompanying upper trough is expected to move east across the state during the day and is likely to generate at least isolated showers over the eastern tropics. The next high over southwestern Australia should extend a ridge over western Queensland in the wake of the trough. Remaining fine and mostly sunny elsewhere with widespread areas of frost over the central, southern and southeast interior. A cool to cold morning for southern and central districts. Forecast for Friday The high should move eastwards into central Australia extending a ridge across much of the state. Some isolated showers should occur in the onshore flow about the North Tropical Coast, otherwise fine and sunny conditions are expected elsewhere. A cool to cold morning for western, central and southeastern districts with widespread frosts over parts of the central, southern and southeastern interior. Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday A ridge of high pressure and dry southwest to southeasterly winds should prevail across much of the state during the outlook period as the high move slowly across southern Australia. Isolated showers are likely to persist over the northeast tropics due to an onshore airflow, and may spread further southwards to the central Queensland coast by late in weekend. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected otherwise, with cool to cold minimum temperatures and early frosts over the southern, central and southeastern interior.
