MELBOURNE - Aug 18/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A weak high [1019 hPa] over the southern Coral Sea is expected to move slowly
eastwards, maintaining a weak ridge onto the tropical east coast of Queensland.
A surface trough extends from the Gulf Country to southeast Queensland. An upper
level trough is expected to move across New South Wales and far southern
Queensland today.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Isolated showers over parts of central Queensland and over the southeast
north from about the Sunshine Coast, tending scattered about the Wide Bay and
Burnett district. Isolated light showers about far northern Cape York Peninsula.
Morning fog patches over the east. Light to moderate southeast to northeasterly
winds along the tropical coast, tending east to southeasterly and fresh at times
over Cape York Peninsula. Light to moderate northwest to northeasterly winds
along the remaining east coast. Moderate to locally fresh and gusty southwest to
southeasterly winds over the interior. A Very High fire danger across all
western districts, the Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, Central Highlands
and Coalfields, Darling Downs and Granite Belt and Southeast Coast forecast
districts.
Forecast for Tuesday
The surface trough is expected to move off the Wide Bay and central
Queensland coast early in the morning. Isolated showers are expected in the
onshore flow about the east coast of Cape York Peninsula. The high is expected
to move over southeastern Australia, bringing fine and sunny conditions to the
remainder of the state, with relatively cool temperatures in the southern
interior. Daytime temperatures will tend closer to average elsewhere. Dry, gusty
southwest to southeasterly winds across most of the state is expected to produce
an increased fire danger in most areas. Some high cloud may develop over the
far west, but no rainfall is expected.
Forecast for Wednesday
Another high west of Perth is expected to extend a ridge across central
Australia and southern Queensland with fine and mostly sunny conditions across
the state. A cool to cold morning in central and southern districts with more
widespread frost areas over inland areas. Some high cloud should spread over the
southern tropics but no rainfall at this stage.
Forecast for Thursday
A weak surface trough and accompanying upper trough is expected to move east
across the state during the day and is likely to generate at least isolated
showers over the eastern tropics. Remaining fine and mostly sunny elsewhere with
widespread areas of frost over the central, southern and southeast interior.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
A ridge of high pressure and dry southwest to southeasterly winds should
prevail across much of the state during the outlook period as the high move
slowly across southern Australia. Isolated showers are likely to persist over
the northeast tropics due to an onshore airflow, and may spread further
southwards to the central Queensland coast by late in weekend. Fine and mostly
sunny conditions are expected otherwise, with cool to cold minimum temperatures
and early frosts over the southern, central and southeastern interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Monday.
