Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 18/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A strong cold front is moving across New South Wales, while a deep low pressure system lies to the south of Tasmania. This front is bringing colder, gusty winds to the south and west this morning, extending to the northeast late in the day. As the front moves to the Tasman Sea during Tuesday, a ridge of high pressure is forecast to strengthen across the state's north and remain in place through the week. This will promote generally fine but cooler weather in most areas, although subsequent cold fronts skimming the southern districts later in the week could bring a few showers to Victorian border regions.
Forecast for the rest of MondayIsolated showers in the southeast and over the southern inland and tablelands, more widespread about the western slopes of the ranges. Snow showers on the southern ranges above 700m and about higher parts of the central ranges later in the day. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Fresh to strong northwesterly winds, locally gale force in the southeast, turning colder southwesterly.Tuesday 20 AugustIsolated showers about the southern inland, more widespread about the western slopes of the ranges. Snow showers on the ranges to 600 metres at first but retreating to higher levels during the day. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Morning frost areas, particularly about the tablelands. A cool to cold day with fresh southwesterly winds, moderating in the west.Wednesday 21 AugustIsolated showers over the southern inland, more likely about the western slopes. Morning frost areas, widespread about the tablelands. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Light to moderate southwest to southeasterly winds.Thursday 22 AugustIsolated showers over the southern inland. Fine elsewhere. Morning frost areas. Light to moderate west to southwesterly winds, freshening across the south. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Monday.Product IDN10031
