MELBOURNE - Aug 18/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A weak ridge of high pressure extends across northern New South Wales today, as a cold front approaches from the Southern Ocean. This front will reach southwestern parts of the state this evening then continue to the east during Monday, with colder, gusty southwesterly winds arriving in its wake. Following this, another high is forecast to strengthen across the state during Tuesday and Wednesday promoting generally fine, cool days and cold nights. Forecast for the rest of SundayIsolated showers over the southern inland, increasing about the western slopes of the ranges with snow showers above about 1400 metres. Mostly clear elsewhere. Light winds in the northeast. West to northwesterly winds elsewhere, fresh to strong and gusty across the south and locally reaching gale force in the southeast tonight.Monday 19 AugustIsolated showers in the southeast and over the southern inland, more widespread about the western slopes of the ranges. Snow showers on the southern ranges above 700m and about higher parts of the central ranges. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Fresh to strong northwesterly winds, locally gale force in the southeast early, turning colder, gusty southwesterly.Tuesday 20 AugustIsolated showers about the southern inland, more widespread about the western slopes of the ranges, with snow showers on the ranges to 600 metres at first but retreating to higher levels during the day. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Morning frost areas, particularly about the tablelands. A cool to cold day with fresh southwesterly winds, moderating in the west.Wednesday 21 AugustIsolated showers over the southern inland, more likely about the western slopes. Morning frost areas, widespread about the tablelands. Fine remainder. Light to moderate southwest to southeast winds.Thursday 22 AugustIsolated showers over the southern inland. Fine remainder. Morning frost areas.
