MELBOURNE - Aug 17/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure trough over western Victoria will move eastwards this evening and weaken. A deep low pressure system developing over waters south of the Bight will pass just to the south of Tasmania Sunday night. An associated cold front will cross Victoria during Sunday. The low will move further southwards on Monday as a ridge of high pressure develops over the Bight. The ridge of high pressure will move across northwest Victoria late Tuesday. The next cold front will reach far southwest Victoria Wednesday night. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayShowers affecting all districts this evening, but only isolated showers over the far southeast and far northwest. Showers falling as snow above 1200 metres. Possible thunderstorms over the west with squally winds. Fresh northwest to northerly winds, strengthening about the eastern ranges.Sunday 18 AugustScattered showers at first mainly about the ranges and over the southwest. A band of rain moving across the State, with only isolated showers to follow, scattered near the coast. Showers and rain falling as snow above 1500 metres, lowering to 800 metres over the far southwest at night. Possible hail near the southwest coast at night. Fresh to strong northwesterly winds, reaching gale force at times over southern mountain districts.Monday 19 AugustWidespread showers near the coast with scattered showers over remaining southern and mountain districts. Isolated showers over the northern plains. Snow showers above 600 metres. Local hail and thunder possible in the south and east. A cold day with moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds, strong near the coast.Tuesday 20 AugustScattered showers over southern and mountain districts, isolated over the northern plains. Showers falling as snow above 800 metres. A cool to cold day with a moderating west to southwesterly wind.Wednesday 21 AugustIsolated showers, mainly along the ranges and near the coast falling as snow above 900 metres. Showers increasing over the southwest late in the day.
