MELBOURNE - Aug 17/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system over the western Tasman Sea is weakening, while a vigorous cold front moves across New South Wales brings gusty conditions to many districts today. Behind the front, a weak ridge is expected to develop over the state's north during Sunday as a second cold front approaches from the Southern Ocean. This next front is forecast to reach the southwest late in the day, then continue to the east on Monday, bringing colder southwesterly winds. A high is likely to strengthen across the state during Tuesday and Wednesday promoting generally fine, cool days and cold nights. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayIsolated showers and possible thunderstorms over the far northeast. Isolated showers about the western slopes of the far southern ranges and near the Victorian border. Snow showers on the Alps above about 1200m. Fresh to strong and gusty west to northwesterly winds, generally easing.Sunday 18 AugustIsolated showers over the southern inland, with snow showers on the Alps above 1500 metres. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Early fog patches in the northeast and early light frost patches on the ranges. Winds west to northwesterly, becoming fresh to strong and gusty across the south.Monday 19 AugustIsolated showers in the southeast and over the southern inland, more widespread about the western slopes of the ranges, with snow on the southern ranges above 700m. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Northwesterly winds turning colder, strong and gusty southwesterly.Tuesday 20 AugustIsolated showers about the western slopes of the southern and central ranges and over the southern inland. Snow on the southern ranges to about 600 metres but retreating to higher levels during the day. Fine, mostly sunny remainder. Morning frost areas, widespread about the ranges. A cool to cold day with fresh southwesterly winds, moderating in the west.Wednesday 21 AugustIsolated showers over the southern inland, more likely about the western slopes. Fine remainder. Morning frost areas.
