Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 16/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high off the northeast coast of New South Wales will drift eastwards across
the southern Coral Sea over the weekend, maintaining a weak ridge along the
Queensland east coast. A surface trough currently over the far southwest of the
state will move eastwards to lie from the northwest of the state to the Darling
Downs by late Saturday.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Partly cloudy with isolated showers about coastal parts north of about
Townsville, with early morning drizzle areas about the ranges. Cloudy over the
southern interior with scattered showers and gusty thunderstorms developing
through the southern interior and extending into the southeast of the state
during the evening. Some thunderstorms may be severe in the eastern Maranoa and
Warrego district and the Darling Downs and Granite Belt district. These showers
and thunderstorms may reach the far southeast coast late in the evening. Fine
and mostly sunny conditions are expected elsewhere. Warm to hot over the eastern
interior. Light to moderate northeast to northwest winds, tending east to
southeast and fresh at times about Cape York Peninsula. Southwest to southeast
winds over the west.  A Very High Fire Danger in the Central West and Maranoa
and Warrego districts.
Forecast for Sunday
The high over the southern Coral Sea should weaken, with isolated morning
showers contracting to the far northern coastal parts of Cape York Peninsula.
The trough will move slowly northeast to extend from the Gulf Country to the
Central Highlands and into northern parts of the Southeast Coast district.
Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms are likely to the northeast of the
trough and south of about Rockhampton. The next high should move eastwards over
southern parts of Western Australia, extending a ridge of high pressure over
western Queensland bringing fine and mostly sunny conditions. The northerly
winds east of the trough will result in yet another warm to hot day through
northwestern, central and southeastern Queensland.
Forecast for Monday
The surface trough will remain slow moving and will generate isolated showers
about the Wide Bay and Capricornia districts, before moving off the coast in the
afternoon or evening.  Very isolated showers are expected in the weak easterly
flow about the east coast of Northern Cape York Peninsula. The next high should
move eastwards over South Australia extending a ridge across Queensland in the
wake of the trough, bringing fine and sunny conditions to remaining parts of the
state. The northerly winds east of the trough will result in yet another warm
day through northwestern, central and southeastern Queensland. A cool morning
over the southeastern interior with early frost patches expected.
Forecast for Tuesday
A weak surface trough off the Capricornia Coast may trigger an isolated
shower or two over the northern Capricornia district. Very isolated showers are
expected in the weak easterly flow about the east coast of Northern Cape York
Peninsula. The high should strengthen over southeastern Australia, bringing fine
and sunny conditions to the remainder of the state. A cool to cold morning over
the southeastern interior with early frost areas expected. Daytime temperatures
will tend towards average due to the influence of west to southwesterly winds.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
A ridge of high pressure and dry southwest to southeast winds should extend
through much of the state during the outlook period, with fine and cooler
conditions expected and early frosts over the southern, central and southeastern
interior. Isolated showers are possible about the northeastern tropical coast in
a weak onshore airflow.
