MELBOURNE - Aug 16/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front over eastern Victoria will clear the State this morning. A deep low pressure system will develop over waters south of the Bight today and approach Tasmania during Sunday with an associated cold front crossing Victoria. The low will move to the southeast of Tasmania on Monday as a ridge of high pressure develops over the Bight. The ridge of high pressure will move across northern Victoria on Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayIsolated showers, scattered in the south and about the ranges, tending to rain later in the day from the west. Mainly dry over East Gippsland. Snow showers above 1100 metres in the east. A generally cool and mostly cloudy day with fresh west to northwesterly winds, strengthening later in the southwest.Sunday 18 AugustRain areas extending eastwards across the State, falling as snow above 1100 metres and contracting to the east later. Isolated showers to follow, scattered near the coast. Fresh to strong northwesterly winds, reaching gale force about alpine areas and near the coast.Monday 19 AugustWidespread showers near the coast with scattered showers over remaining southern and mountain districts. Isolated showers over the northern plains. Snow showers above 700 metres. Local hail and thunder possible in the south. Moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds, strong near the coast.Tuesday 20 AugustIsolated showers in most districts becoming scattered over the northeast ranges and near the coast. Fine over the far northwest. Snow showers above 800 metres.
