Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 15/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Fire Weather Warning has been issued for parts of the
Channel Country for today.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A surface trough in Capricornia is expected to move north towards the
southern tropical coast. A high over New South Wales will move east into the
Tasman Sea on Friday, extending a weak ridge along the east Queensland
coast.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Early frost areas over parts of the southern and southeast interior. Partly
cloudy with isolated showers for coastal parts north of about St Lawrence.
Increasing high cloud through the southern interior with possible late light
showers or rain in the far southwest of the state. Fine and sunny conditions
over the remainder of the state. Warm and gusty northeast to northwest winds
through the west. Light to moderate southeast to northeast winds elsewhere. A
Severe Fire Danger in the Channel Country district. A Very High Fire Danger in
the Central West, Maranoa and Warrego and Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders
districts.
Forecast for Saturday
The high over the northern Tasman Sea should weaken but continue to extend a
ridge along the east Queensland coast. Isolated showers should therefore
contract to coastal parts north of about Bowen. Early frost areas are possible
on southeastern parts of the Granite Belt due to the light winds, cooler
temperatures and clear skies. A new surface trough will move east through
western Queensland, generating some cloud and showers through the southern and
southeastern interior with isolated thunderstorms, particularly near the
southern border. These showers and thunderstorms may reach the far southeast
coast late in the evening. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected
elsewhere. The northerly winds ahead of the trough will result in yet another
warm to hot day through western, southern and central Queensland.
Forecast for Sunday
The high over the Tasman Sea should weaken, with isolated showers gradually
clearing the tropical coast. The trough will most likely move slowly east
through southeastern and southern central districts, generating showers and
possible isolated thunderstorms with its passage. The next high should move
eastwards over southern parts of Western Australia, extending a ridge of high
pressure over western Queensland bringing fine and mostly sunny conditions. The
northerly winds ahead of the trough will result in yet another warm to hot day
through northwestern, central and southeastern Queensland.
Forecast for Monday
The surface trough will most likely generate isolated showers about the Wide
Bay and Capricornia districts, before moving off the coast in the afternoon or
evening. Very isolated showers are expected in the weak easterly flow through
Torres Strait. The next high should move eastwards over South Australia
extending a ridge across Queensland in the wake of the trough, bringing fine and
sunny conditions to remaining parts of the state. The northerly winds ahead of
the trough will result in yet another warm day through northwestern, central and
southeastern Queensland.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
A ridge of high pressure and dry southwest to southeast winds will extend
through much of the state during the outlook period, with fine and cooler
conditions expected and early frosts returning to the southern, central and
southeastern interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Friday.
