Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 15/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A cold front in the Bight will reach western Victoria this evening and move rapidly eastwards across the State overnight and early Saturday morning. A deep low pressure system will develop over waters south of the Bight on Saturday and approach Tasmania during Sunday with an associated cold front crossing Victoria. The low will move to the southeast of Tasmania on Monday as a ridge of high pressure develops over the Bight.
Forecast for the rest of FridayFine for most of the day with northerly winds strengthening over southern and elevated areas in the morning and possibly reaching gale force. Isolated showers developing in the west during the afternoon, extending eastwards during the evening and tending to rain areas over the southwest and along northern slopes of the divide. Remaining dry over east Gippsland.Saturday 17 AugustScattered showers extending to most districts in the morning, contracting to the southwest and alpine areas at night. Snowfalls developing in the Alpine regions above 1000 metres. Strong to gale force northerly winds affecting most southern and mountain areas at first ahead of a northwest to westerly wind shift crossing the State rapidly in the morning with generally fresh winds to follow. A generally cool and partly cloudy day.Sunday 18 AugustRain areas extending eastwards across the State, falling as snow above 1100 metres and generally clearing from the west later. Fresh to strong northwesterly winds, reaching gale force about alpine areas.Monday 19 AugustIsolated showers extending to most districts, scattered at times in the south and falling as snow above 700 metres. Local hail possible. Moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds, strong near the coast.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Friday.Product IDV10310
