MELBOURNE - Aug 14/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A weak ridge of high pressure will cross Victoria on Thursday as a cold front moves into the Bight. The cold front will reach the far west of the State on Friday night then rapidly progress eastwards over the remainder of the State on Saturday morning. A deep low pressure system will move over waters south of the Bight late on Saturday and will approach Tasmania on Sunday. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayIsolated showers over southern and mountain districts contracting to the coast during the morning and clearing in the afternoon. Showers falling as snow above 1000 metres in the early morning. Morning frost patches in the north. A cool and partly cloudy day with light to moderate west to northwesterly winds, locally fresh about the ranges and coastal fringe.Friday 16 AugustFine for most of the day with northerly winds strengthening over southern and elevated areas and possibly reaching gale force in the afternoon and evening. Isolated showers developing in the west late in the afternoon then extending to central areas at night and becoming scattered.Saturday 17 AugustScattered showers extending to most districts in the morning, contracting to the southwest and alpine areas at night. Snowfalls developing in the Alpine regions above 1000 metres. Strong to gale force northerly winds affecting most southern and mountain areas at first ahead of a northwest to westerly wind shift crossing the State rapidly in the morning with generally fresh winds to follow. A generally cool and partly cloudy day.Sunday 18 AugustRain areas extending eastwards across the State, falling as snow above 1100 metres and generally clearing from the west later.
