Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 12/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
Cold fronts embedded in a strong westerly airstream will rapidly cross Victoria tonight and on Wednesday. On Thursday a weak ridge of high pressure will cross the State then a strong cold front will approach western Victoria late on Friday.
Forecast for the rest of MondayShowers tending to areas of rain about the southwest coast and extending eastwards to affect most southern and mountain areas late this evening. Snowfalls above 1000 metres. The chance of hil or thunder about the Gippsland coast. Rather cold with moderate to fresh westerly winds, strong about the coast. over the northeast this morning, falling as snow on the Alpine peaks.Tuesday 13 AugustScattered showers in southern and mountain districts becoming isolated during the morning and mostly contracting to the southwest and ranges. Mainly dry over the northern plains and East Gippsland. Showers increasing again in the southwest late in the day. Snowfalls above 1200 metres. Cool with fresh west to northwest winds, locally strong near the coast.Wednesday 14 AugustScattered showers, mainly in southern and mountain districts with snowfalls lowering to 1000 metres. A cool to cold mostly cloudy day with fresh to locally strong northwesterly winds shifting west to southwesterly from the west in the morning.Thursday 15 AugustIsolated showers contracting to the coast during the morning. Showers falling as snow above 1000 metres in the early morning. A cool and partly cloudy day with light to moderate west to northwesterly winds, locally fresh about the ranges and coastal fringe.Friday 16 AugustFine for most of the day with northerly winds strengthening over southern and elevated areas and possibly reaching gale force in the evening. Isolated showers developing in the west late in the afternoon then extending eastwards at night.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EST Tuesday.Product IDV10310
