Channel Country, Maranoa and Warrego and Darling Downs and Granite Belt
districts for Monday.

Point to Point Danger for Monday evening.

web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high pressure system lies over the southern Coral Sea and extends a moist
easterly wind flow on to the northeast tropical coast, extending south to the
central coast overnight. The high will shift further southeast away from the
Queensland coast during Monday. A trough will enter the southwest of the state
Monday morning and move rapidly east over the southern interior, reaching the
western Darling Downs in the evening.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Cloudy periods near the northeast tropical coast with possible isolated light
showers developing. Fine and mostly clear elsewhere. Light to moderate southeast
to northeasterly winds over the northern tropics, fresh at times near the
Peninsula coast. Moderate northwest to northeasterly winds elsewhere, fresh at
times over the interior.
Forecast for Monday
Morning fog patches through eastern and central districts and near the Gulf
of Carpentaria coast. Mostly cloudy at first near the east tropical and central
coasts and islands with isolated light showers, clearing during the day. Fine
and sunny over the remainder of the state apart from some high cloud moving east
over the far south. Dry, hot and gusty west to northwest winds ahead of the
trough will result in Very High fire dangers through the Central West, Channel
Country, Maranoa and Warrego and Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts,
increasing to Severe southwest of about Bedourie to Millmerran. A cooler, fresh
and gusty southerly wind change will extend east in the wake of the trough
during the late afternoon and evening. A very warm day through southeast and
southern central districts with moderate to fresh northwesterly winds. Moderate
east to southeast winds over the northern tropics. Light to moderate mostly
northeast to northwest winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Tuesday
The trough will most likely contract off the southern Queensland coast early
Tuesday morning, with a cooler southwest to southeasterly wind change extending
through areas southwest of about Mount Isa to the Sunshine Coast. Daytime
temperatures will remain well above the August average over remaining parts of
the state away from the tropics. The high pressure system over the southern
Coral Sea will weaken while a new high over South Australia will move east
through New South Wales. A dry airmass will extend through much of the state
with only isolated light showers expected near the northeastern Peninsula coast.
Fire Dangers will most likely remain at least High over southeastern districts
and the central interior due to a dry and gusty south to southwesterly wind flow
in the wake of the trough.
Forecast for Wednesday
The trough is expected to move into far southern Capricornia waters and
weaken. A relatively moist north to northeast wind flow will extend through
southern central and southeast districts, with some patchy cloudy and possible
isolated light showers expected. The new high pressure system will move east off
the New South Wales coast into the northern Tasman Sea, extending a ridge and
onshore wind flow onto the northeast Queensland coast with isolated showers,
mostly near the east Peninsula coast. Early morning frost patches are possible
about the Maranoa and Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts under clear skies
and light winds. A new trough will move east over the southern interior of the
state, with the northerly wind flow ahead of the trough resulting in daytime
temperatures well above the August average once again through western, central
and southern districts.
Forecast for Thursday
The new trough will most likely contract off the southern Queensland coast
during the morning and move north towards Fraser Island, with a dry, cooler
south to southeasterly wind flow extending through western and southern
Queensland in its wake. The trough may generate some patchy cloud and isolated
light showers through the Capricornia and northern Wide Bay. A new high will
develop over New South Wales, maintaining a ridge and an onshore wind flow onto
the east tropical coast with isolated showers expected. Fine and mostly sunny
conditions will occur elsewhere.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The high over New South Wales is expected to move southeast through the
Tasman Sea during the outlook period, extending a ridge and onshore wind flow
onto the east Queensland coast north of about Fraser Island with isolated
showers expected. A new trough will most likely move east through southern
districts during Saturday and Sunday, generating some high cloud and possible
isolated showers with its passage. Increasing northerly winds ahead of the
trough will again result in daytime temperatures well above the August average
through western, southern and central Queensland, followed by a cool and gusty
southerly wind change extending east in the wake of the trough. Early morning
frosts are likely through the southeastern interior on Friday morning ahead of
the warmer northerly wind flow.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Monday.
