MELBOURNE - Aug 8/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front will approach western Victoria tonight before crossing the State on Friday. A weak ridge of high pressure will move over northern Victoria later Saturday and another cold front will approach southwestern Victoria Sunday night. This cold front will move through the State during Monday. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayIsolated showers in Gippsland clearing eastwards. Patchy rain in the far west developing tonight. Light winds tending northwest to northerly from the west.Friday 9 AugustAreas of rain, mainly on and south of the ranges, contracting eastwards later with only isolated showers over the northwest. Scattered showers to follow the rain, mainly in the south. Rain falling as snow above 1500 metres. Morning fog patches in the east. Cool to mild with fresh northwest to northerly winds, strong to gale force over southern and elevated areas.Saturday 10 AugustIsolated showers over southern and mountain districts, scattered about the northeast ranges and coast during the morning, clearing later in the day. Snow above 1500 metres. Cool with moderate to locally fresh westerly winds gradually easing.Sunday 11 AugustIsolated showers developing over the northern slopes during the morning. Isolated showers developing in the west during the afternoon before increasing in the far southwest at night. Snow above 1500 metres. A cool to mild day with a fresh and gusty northwesterly wind.Monday 12 AugustWidespread rain extending eastwards during the morning before contracting to the east later. Scattered showers showers to follow. Isolated hail and thunder. Snow down to 800 metres.
