MELBOURNE - Aug 7/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for coastal waters from Sandy Cape to Point Danger, including Moreton Bay. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A ridge of high pressure extending over central Australia will remain almost stationary, and combine with a dry airmass to produce fine conditions over most of the state. A trough over southern Queensland will move off the southern coast during today. Forecast for the rest of Thursday Fine and mostly sunny throughout the state. Early frosts are possible about the southern interior and also the southern Atherton Tablelands. Moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds over the southeast, tending light to moderate south to southeasterly elsewhere. A Very High Fire Danger over the southeast of the state, and also about the western Gulf Country. Forecast for Friday A high pressure system is expected to lie over southern Queensland, maintaining stable and sunny conditions throughout the state. Early frosts about the southeast and central interior and about the southern Atherton Tablelands. Forecast for Saturday The high pressure system will remain in place over the south of the state, maintaining the fine and sunny conditions over the entire state. Early frosts are likely over the southern inland. Forecast for Sunday The high pressure system will move slowly eastwards over southeast Queensland, while the upper pattern will remain very stable over the state. This should continue to provide fine and sunny conditions over most of the state. The onshore flow onto the northeast tropical coast may introduce enough humidity to produce a few light showers. A few early frosts are likely over the southern inland. Daytime temperatures will rise over the west as winds tend northerly. Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday A region of high pressure will slowly drift off the east coast as a major upper level trough and surface cold front moves eastwards through central Australia and over southern inland Queensland early next week. However, the dry airmass in place should limit the impact of this system, and in fact little if any rainfall is expected. Isolated light showers may return to the north tropical coast in the onshore flow. Daytime temperatures will climb to well above average over the south of the state ahead of the cold front, with cooler air arriving following the passage of this system. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Thursday.
