Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 7/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A low pressure system that crossed northeast Victoria overnight will move rapidly east and deepen off the central New South Wales coast on Thursday. A high pressure system over South Australia will move eastwards across northern New South Wales during Thursday and extend a ridge southwards over Victoria. A cold front will approach western Victoria Thursday night and will cross the State on Friday. A weak ridge of high pressure will move over northern Victoria later Saturday and another cold front will approach southwestern Victoria Sunday night.
Forecast for the rest of ThursdayRain in the far east clearing during the morning. Scattered showers in the south with local hail, becoming isolated from the west this morning then contracting to the far east this afternoon then clearing. Snow above 1000 metres until the early afternoon. Patchy rain developing in the west at night. Morning fog patches in the northwest. Cool with light to moderate southwesterly winds tending northwest to northerly from the west this afternoon.Friday 9 AugustAreas of rain, mainly on and south of the ranges, contracting eastwards later. Scattered showers in the far north and also following the rain. Rain falling as snow above 1500 metres. Cool to mild with fresh northwest to northerly winds, strong to gale force over southern and elevated areas.Saturday 10 AugustIsolated showers over southern and mountain districts, scattered about the northeast ranges and coast during the morning, clearing later in the day. Snow above 1500 metres. Cool with moderate to locally fresh westerly winds gradually easing.Sunday 11 AugustIsolated showers developing over the northern slopes during the morning. Isolated showers developing in the west during the afternoon before increasing in the far southwest at night. Snow above 1500 metres. A cool to mild day with a fresh and gusty northwesterly wind.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Thursday.Product IDV10310
