Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 6/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A trough approaching the eastern South Australian coast is forecast to move across western Victoria later this morning, reaching central districts this afternoon, then clearing the east tonight. A high pressure system will develop over South Australia during Wednesday and extend a ridge southwards which will move across Victoria on Thursday. Another cold front will approach western Victoria Thursday night and will cross the State on Friday. A weak ridge of high pressure will move over northern Victoria later Saturday.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayLocal morning fog and frost patches in the northeast. Scattered showers extending from the west, reaching eastern districts this afternoon. Showers contracting to the far east and the coast during the evening. Local hail and thunder possible over the south and east. Showers falling as snow above 1000 metres. Generally cool with light to moderate northwest to northerly winds. A moderate to fresh southwesterly change extending from the western border in the late morning, reaching the east at night.Thursday 8 AugustShowers near the Central and Gippsland coasts clearing eastwards. Morning fog and frost patches then a dry and mostly sunny day. Cloud increasing in the west in the late afternoon with isolated showers extending from the western border during the evening. Cool to mild with light winds tending light to moderate northwest to northerly.Friday 9 AugustA band of rain crossing the State with scattered showers to follow, mainly near the coast. Rain falling as snow above 1500 metres. Cool to mild with moderate to fresh northwest to northerly winds.Saturday 10 AugustIsolated showers over southern and mountain districts, scattered about the northeast ranges and falling as snow above 1500 metres. Showers tending to clear late in the day. Cool with moderate to locally fresh westerly winds gradually easing.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Wednesday.Product IDV10310
