Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 6/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A ridge of high pressure extending over central Australia will remain almost
stationary, and combine with a dry airmass to produce fine conditions over most
of the state. A trough over South Australia will move eastwards over southern
inland Queensland on Wednesday.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Fine and mostly clear throughout the state. Light to moderate southeast to
northeasterly winds, tending northwest to southwesterly over southern areas.
Forecast for Wednesday
Fine and sunny over most of the state. Isolated light showers about the far
northeast tropical coast, and possibly developing over far southern parts of the
state in the evening. Early frost over the southern and southeast interior and
also the southern Atherton Tablelands. Light to moderate southeast winds over
the northern tropics, moderate west to southwest winds over the south. A Very
High Fire Danger over the eastern Channel Country and Warrego.
Forecast for Thursday
The trough is expected to move off the east coast, with moderate to fresh
southwest to southeast winds developing across most of the state. Fine and
mostly sunny with only isolated showers in the far northeast tropics. Early
frosts are possible about the southern interior and also the southern Atherton
Tablelands. Maximum temperatures should fall several degrees and be close to
average for the time of year.
Forecast for Friday
A high pressure system is expected to lie over southern Queensland,
maintaining stable and sunny conditions throughout. Early frosts about the
southeast and central interior and about the southern Atherton Tablelands.
Forecast for Saturday
The high pressure system will remain in place over the south of the state,
maintaining the fine and sunny conditions over virtually the entire state. A few
light showers may return to the far northeast coast. Early frosts are likely
over the southern inland.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
A region of high pressure will slowly drift off the east coast as a major
upper level trough and surface cold front moves eastwards through central
Australia and over southern inland Queensland early next week. However, the dry
airmass in place should limit the impact of this system, and in fact little if
any rainfall is expected. Isolated light showers may return to the north
tropical coast in the onshore flow. Daytime temperatures will climb to well
above average over the south of the state ahead of the cold front, with cooler
air arriving following the passage of this system.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Wednesday.
