MELBOURNE - Aug 5/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front approaching from the west will reach southwestern Victoria this evening and will cross the remainder of the State overnight and Tuesday morning. A high pressure system is expected to develop at the head of the Bight late on Tuesday before moving eastwards across South Australia on Wednesday. The high will develop a ridge southwards which will move across Victoria on Thursday, reaching the Tasman Sea on Friday. The next cold front will approach western Victoria Thursday night then will slide southeastwards across the State on Friday as yet another front moves from the Bight towards western Victoria. Forecast for the rest of MondayScattered showers about the dividing range falling as snow above 1600 metres. Isolated showers elsewhere. A band of rain and isolated thunderstorms entering the southwest tonight then spreading eastwards. Moderate to fresh northwesterly winds, strengthening over southern and mountain districts, particularly over elevated areas.Tuesday 6 AugustA band of rain and isolated thunderstorms clearing eastwards during the morning. Scattered showers to follow over southern and mountain districts, with isolated showers over the northern plains. Snowfalls lowering to 1100 metres. A cool to cold day with fresh west to southwesterly wind extending throughout.Wednesday 7 AugustLocal morning frost over the north. Scattered showers and possible hail over southern and mountain areas, falling as snow above 1000 metres. Fine and partly cloudy over the far northwest, with only isolated showers over the remainder of the northern plains. Cool to cold with generally light to moderate southwesterly winds.Thursday 8 AugustIsolated showers near the Central and Gippsland coasts clearing eastwards. Morning fog and frost patches then fine elsewhere during the day, but isolated showers entering the west at night. Cool to mild and partly cloudy with light winds tending light to moderate northwest to northerly and later freshening over the southwest.Friday 9 AugustIsolated showers over most districts, but fine over the far southeast and also over the far northwest.
