Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 4/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A cold front will rapidly cross Bight waters today to reach western Victoria during the evening then progress across the remainder of the State on Tuesday morning. A high pressure system is expected to develop at the head of the Bight late on Tuesday before moving eastwards across South Australia on Wednesday then over New South Wales on Thursday. This high will extend a ridge across central and eastern Victoria on Thursday.
Forecast for the rest of MondayIsolated showers near and south of the ranges becoming scattered over the southwest and about the northeast highlands with snowfalls above 1300 metres, lifting to 1600 metres. Showers becoming widespread over the southwest in the evening. The chance of thunderstorms in the southwest later in the afternoon and evening. A cool to mild day with moderate to fresh northwesterly winds, strengthening in the west and about the highlands during the afternoon.Tuesday 6 AugustScattered showers, widespread about most southern and mountain areas during the morning and tending to rain in the northeast. Local thunderstorms in the south and east clearing by the early afternoon. Showers becoming more isolated from the west late in the day. Snowfalls lowering to 1200 metres. A cool to cold day with fresh to locally strong northwesterly wind, turning west to southwesterly during the morning then slowly moderating.Wednesday 7 AugustIsolated showers over southern and mountain areas, scattered about the coast and eastern highlands and with snowfalls above 1000 metres. Fine and partly cloudy over the northwest. Cool to cold with light to moderate southwesterly winds.Thursday 8 AugustIsolated showers possible near the coast, otherwise fine. Local morning frosts in the north. Cool to mild and partly cloudy with light to moderate northwest to northerly wind, freshening over the southwest.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Monday.Product IDV10310
