MELBOURNE - Aug 2/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A surface trough extends across the state from the Gulf of Carpentaria south
into the Darling Downs. The southern section of the trough will move east off
the southeast Queensland coast during Saturday morning, while the northern
section will remain inland over the eastern interior. A high pressure system is
expected to move over southern Australia, extending a new ridge into western
Queensland in the wake of the trough.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Partly cloudy with isolated showers about the tropical coast, northern Cape
York Peninsula and the Capricornia. Fine and mostly clear elsewhere. Moderate to
fresh east to southeasterly winds along the northeast tropical coast. Light to
moderate southeast to northeasterly winds elsewhere, ahead of a moderate to
fresh and gusty south to southwesterly change extending across the interior.
Powerful surf conditions easing along the southern Queensland coast south of
Sandy Cape.
Forecast for Saturday
Isolated showers over far eastern districts north of the Capricornia, tending
scattered about the North Tropical Coast. Fine and mostly sunny over the
remainder of the state with dry southwest to southeasterly winds, gusty at times
over the west. Moderate to fresh east to southeasterly winds along the northeast
tropical coast. Light to moderate southeast to northeasterly winds over
remaining eastern districts ahead of a south to southwesterly change which will
move off the southeast coast early in the morning. Early frost patches in the
southeast interior. A Very High fire danger in the Northwest and Gulf Country
districts, High to Very High fire danger in the Central West and Northern
Goldfields and Upper Flinders districts.
Forecast for Sunday
The high pressure system is expected to move into central Australia with a
ridge across Queensland. Isolated showers along the north tropical coast in a
fresh onshore airflow. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere with dry southwest to
southeasterly winds, gusty at times over the northwest. A cool morning over
parts of the interior with more extensive areas of early frost expected in the
southern and southeast interior.
Forecast for Monday
The high pressure system is expected to move over eastern Australia,
maintaining a broad ridge across the state. Isolated showers along the north
tropical coast in a fresh onshore airflow. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere with
dry southwest to southeasterly winds. A cool morning over parts of the interior
with extensive areas of early frost expected in the southern and southeast
interior.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high pressure system is expected to move into the Tasman Sea, maintaining
a broad ridge over the state. Isolated showers along the north tropical coast in
a fresh onshore airflow. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere with dry southwest to
southeasterly winds. A cool morning over parts of the interior with extensive
areas of early frost expected in the southern and southeast interior.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
The high pressure system is expected to weaken east of New Zealand on
Wednesday, with predominantly fine and sunny weather over Queensland apart from
isolated showers along the northeast tropical coast in an onshore airflow.
Maximum temperatures trending above average over the interior as a new surface
trough moves into the west late on Wednesday, before moving across the state
into eastern Queensland on Thursday. This trough combined with an upper level
trough is likely to increase instability and may produce some showers over
southeast districts on Thursday. The next upstream high moving across southern
Australia on Thursday will extend a new ridge into Queensland with fine and
mostly sunny conditions expected to prevail across the state on Friday in the
wake of the trough.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Saturday.
