MELBOURNE - Aug 1/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A weakening ridge over eastern Victoria will move away to the east tonight. The first of a series of cold fronts is crossing Bight waters and is forecast to reach southwestern Victoria late Friday morning. The front will move quickly across central districts during Friday afternoon and evening then clearing the east Friday night. The next cold front is expected to cross southwestern Victoria Saturday evening then clear the southeast Sunday morning. Another cold front will reach western Bass Strait late on Monday, moving quickly across the State Tuesday, clearing the east Tuesday afternoon. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayPartly cloudy day with light to moderate northerly winds.Friday 2 AugustA band of rain developing over western districts during the morning, central districts and the eastern ranges in the afternoon and elsewhere across eastern districts in the evening. Scattered showers near and south of the ranges following the rain. Isolated thunderstorms possible over the southwest in the morning then near the central and western coasts in the afternoon and evening with small hail possible. Snow developing above 900 metres. Mild over Gippsland and the Mallee, cooler elsewhere with fresh to locally strong north to northwesterly winds shifting west to southwesterly from the west.Saturday 3 AugustScattered showers near the coast and isolated showers over the eastern ranges. A band of rain developing over the southwest in the afternoon reaching central districts by the evening and eastern districts at night. Isolated showers south of the ranges following the rain, mainly near the coast. Snowfalls above 900 metres. Isolated thunderstorms and small hail possible near the western and central coasts from the evening. A cool and mostly cloudy day with fresh to locally strong west to northwesterly winds.Sunday 4 AugustScattered showers near and south of the ranges tending more isolated over parts of Gippsland and the northern plains. Showers falling as snow above 1100 metres. A cool day with moderate to fresh westerly winds.Monday 5 AugustIsolated showers near and south of the ranges, more widespread near the central and western coasts. Showers falling as snow above1400 metres.
