MELBOURNE - Aug 1/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system south of New Zealand will continue to move eastwards today while maintaining a ridge over eastern Victoria. The first of a series of cold fronts will cross Bight waters today to reach southwestern Victoria late Friday morning then moving quickly across the State, clearing the east Friday night. The next cold front is expected to cross southwestern Victoria later Saturday night, clearing the southeast Sunday morning. Another cold front will reach western Bass Strait late on Monday. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayMorning fog patches, mainly in the north and areas of frost in the north and east. A dry, cool to mild and partly cloudy day with light to moderate northerly winds.Friday 2 AugustA band of rain developing over western districts during the morning, central districts and the eastern ranges in the afternoon and elsewhere across eastern districts in the evening. Scattered showers near and south of the ranges following the rain with isolated thunderstorms and small hail possible near the central and western coasts. Snow developing above 900 metres by late in the day. Mild over Gippsland, cooler elsewhere with fresh to locally strong north to northwesterly winds shifting west to southwesterly from the west.Saturday 3 AugustIsolated showers near and south of the ranges tending more widespread from the west in the afternoon and evening. Isolated showers over the northern plains, mainly in the afternoon. Showers falling as snow above 1000 metres in the morning, rising to above 1200 metres by late in the day. A cool and cloudy day with moderate to fresh west to northwesterly winds, strong at first along the coastal fringe.Sunday 4 AugustScattered showers near and south of the ranges tending more isolated over parts of Gippsland and the northern plains.
