MELBOURNE - Jul 31/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A ridge of high pressure extends across southern New South Wales in the wake of a cold front, while a low intensifies over the Coral Sea. The combination of these systems will drive showers onto the northern half of the coast until late Thursday, while fine conditions prevail elsewhere. The ridge is expected to weaken during Thursday as the next cold front approaches from the west. This front is expected to cross the state during Friday and Saturday, bringing wet weather to parts of the southern inland although no significant rainfall totals are likely. Another weaker front is forecast to follow on Sunday. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayIsolated showers along the coast and adjacent ranges north from Nowra, clearing south of Newcastle by afternoon. Fine elsewhere, with a mix of sun and cloud. Areas of morning fog, mainly about the ranges and southern inland. South to southeasterly winds, fresh and gusty about the northern coast.Thursday 1 AugustIsolated showers along the coast north from Newcastle, contracting further north through the day. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Early fog and frosts, mainly over the slopes and ranges and over the southern inland. South to southeasterly winds.Friday 2 AugustPatchy rain developing over the southern inland and increasing to rain areas on the western slopes of the southern ranges and falling as snow above 1300 metres. Fine and partly cloudy elsewhere. North to northwesterly winds, turning fresh westerly in the west later.Saturday 3 AugustIsolated showers across the southern inland, tending scattered on the western slopes of the southern ranges and falling as snow above 1200 metres. Fine and partly cloudy elsewhere. West to southwesterly winds, gusty in the southeast.Sunday 4 AugustIsolated showers across the southern inland, tending scattered on the western slopes of the southern ranges and falling as snow above 1300 metres. Fine and partly cloudy elsewhere.
