MELBOURNE - Jul 31/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high pressure system [1026 hPa] over Victoria extends a ridge through Queensland. This high will weaken as it moves southeast over the next few days, before a new high is forecast to strengthen over central Australia over the weekend. A low pressure system near New Caledonia is forecast to deepen during today as it moves towards the southwest. Forecast for the rest of Wednesday Isolated showers about the northern tropics and exposed parts of the southeast coast. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Warm temperatures over the interior. Moderate south to southeasterly winds inland, tending moderate to fresh on the coast. Forecast for Thursday The high pressure system will weaken over New South Wales as the low pressure system is likely to remain well offshore over the northern Tasman Sea. Isolated showers about the northern tropics and exposed parts of the southeast coast. Stable conditions dominate over the interior with fine and mostly sunny conditions. Warm temperatures are expected to continue over the interior. Powerful surf conditions are expected to develop for exposed coastal areas over southern Queensland. Forecast for Friday A new high is forecast to build over Western Australia while a trough will push through southern Queensland and the low over the Tasman Sea moves east. Isolated showers continuing about the northern tropics, also developing about much of the east coast under the influence of an upper trough. Fine and mostly sunny conditions inland with warm temperatures in southern parts as winds tend northerly ahead of the trough. Powerful surf conditions for exposed coastal areas over southern Queensland. Forecast for Saturday The high will move over central Australia while the trough will push offshore from the east coast. Isolated showers should contract onto the far northern east coast of Cape York Peninsula, while morning showers are possible about the Central and Capricornia coasts. Fine and mostly sunny through inland and remaining coastal areas. Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday The high pressure system over central Australia will slowly move east over southern Queensland by Monday. Isolated showers to continue over the northeast tropics, less likely further south as winds tend light or offshore. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are forecast over much of the state. Temperatures will cool, and morning frosts return, over southern districts from about Sunday as dry air moves over the region. Strong winds are likely to develop about the northern tropics and southern Gulf of Carpentaria. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Wednesday.
