MELBOURNE - Jul 31/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system over northwest Victoria will continue to move southeastwards across the State on Wednesday then over the southern Tasman Sea Wednesday night and Thursday while maintaining a ridge over eastern Victoria. The next cold front will cross Bight waters on Thursday to reach western Victoria late Friday morning then move through to eastern districts by Friday night. Another cold front is expected to cross Victoria Saturday night and Sunday morning. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayMorning frost and local fogs in the north and east, otherwise fine. A cool and partly cloudy day with light winds tending northerly across western districts during the afternoon.Thursday 1 AugustMorning fog patches, mainly in the north and local early frosts. A dry, cool to mild and partly cloudy day with light to moderate northerly winds.Friday 2 AugustA band of rain developing over western districts during the morning, central districts and the eastern ranges in the afternoon and eastern districts at night. Scattered showers near and south of the ranges following the rain with isolated thunderstorms and small hail possible near the central and western coasts. Snow developing above 1000 metres by late in the day. Mild over Gippsland, cooler elsewhere with fresh to locally strong north to northwesterly winds shifting west to southwesterly from the west.Saturday 3 AugustScattered showers near and south of the ranges tending isolated over parts of Gippsland and the northern plains. Showers falling as snow above 900 metres in the morning, rising to above 1200 metres by late in the day. A cool and cloudy day with moderate to fresh westerly winds, strong at first along the coastal fringe.
