Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 30/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A slow moving high [1033 hPa] over the eastern Tasman Sea extends a firm
ridge through the interior of Queensland and along the east coast. The ridge
will slowly weaken over the Queensland tropics as the high moves east towards
New Zealand. A surface trough is moving slowly eastwards across southwest
Queensland, and is expected to weaken over southern Queensland later today.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Isolated showers along the east coast, tending scattered through the
Capricornia district. Isolated showers in the southeast and extending to the
southern interior, with possible thunderstorms during the afternoon. Fine and
mostly sunny elsewhere. Moderate to fresh southeast winds along the east coast,
tending moderate southwest to southeast inland. Temperatures will most likely
remain well above average through much of the interior. A Very High fire danger
for the Gulf Country and Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders districts.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high pressure system will move towards the New South Wales coast while a
low is forecast to deepen over the northern Tasman Sea. Drier air reaching
eastern districts should lead to a reduction in shower activity along the east
coast, with isolated showers becoming restricted to the northern tropics and
exposed parts of the southeast coast. Stable conditions dominate over the
interior with fine and mostly sunny conditions. Warm temperatures are expected
to continue over the interior.
Forecast for Thursday
The high pressure system will weaken over New South Wales as the low pressure
system is likely to remain well offshore over the northern Tasman Sea. Isolated
showers about the northern tropics and exposed parts of the southeast coast.
Stable conditions dominate over the interior with fine and mostly sunny
conditions. Warm temperatures are expected to continue over the interior.
Forecast for Friday
A new high is forecast to build over Western Australia while a trough will
push through southern Queensland and the low over the Tasman Sea moves east.
Isolated showers continuing about the northern tropics and exposed parts of the
southeast coast. Fine and mostly sunny conditions inland with warm temperatures
in southern parts as winds tend northerly ahead of the trough.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
The high pressure system will build over central Australia over the weekend
and move into western Queensland by Monday. Isolated showers to continue over
the northeast tropics, less likely further south as winds tend light or
offshore. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are forecast over much of the state.
Temperatures will cool, and morning frosts return, over southern districts from
about Sunday as dry air moves over the region.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Tuesday.
