MELBOURNE - Jul 21/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system crossing the South Australian coast is forecast to weaken as it moves across western Victoria today. A trough links to another deep low east of Tasmania. The eastern low will be slow moving before drifting northeastwards across the Tasman Sea later today and on Tuesday. A large high pressure system will move over the Bight today then continue eastwards to lie just west of Victoria on Tuesday night. The high will cross the State on Wednesday then move to the Tasman Sea on Thursday night, as a weakening cold front approaches western Victoria. Forecast for the rest of MondayEarly fog and frost patches inland over the west. Scattered showers developing over southern and mountain districts and isolated showers reaching the northern plains. Showers tending to rain about the western and central coasts. Snowfalls down to 900 metres at first, rising to 1100 metres. Cold with moderate to fresh northwesterly winds shifting west to southwesterly late in the day and freshening near the coast.Tuesday 23 JulyEarly fog and frost patches. Scattered showers over southern and mountain districts, more extensive in the far east and contracting eastwards during the day. Snowfalls down to 1200 metres at first. Cool to cold, moderate to fresh southwesterly winds, strong at first along the Gippsland coast but gradually easing.Wednesday 24 JulyEarly fog and frost inland. Isolated showers in the south contracting to the southeast then clearing. Cool day with generally light south to southeasterly winds.Thursday 25 JulyMorning frost and fog then fine until isolated showers develop in the southwest at night.
