MELBOURNE - Jul 20/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system west of Bass Strait is expected to cross the South Australian coast today before moving across western Victoria on Monday then weakening. A trough links to another low that is deepening east of Tasmania. The eastern low will be slow moving today and early Monday before drifting eastwards across the Tasman Sea later on Monday and Tuesday. A large high pressure system will develop over the Bight on Monday before moving eastwards to lie just west of Victoria on Tuesday night, moving across the State on Wednesday. Forecast for the rest of SundayScattered showers over the northeast and the southwest with isolated showers developing over most other districts in the afternoon. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms possible in the west with small hail. Showers falling as snow down to 600 metres. Cold with moderate to fresh north to northwesterly winds.Monday 22 JulyScattered showers over southern and mountain districts and isolated showers reaching the northern plains. Snowfalls down to 800 metres at first, rising to 1200 metres. Cold with light to moderate west to northwesterly winds shifting southwesterly during the day and freshening.Tuesday 23 JulyScattered showers over southern and mountain districts, more extensive in the far east. Isolated showers reaching some northern areas but dry over the far northwest. Snowfalls down to 1200 metres at first, rising to 1500 metres. Moderate to fresh southwesterly winds, strong at first along the Gippsland coast but gradually easing.Wednesday 24 JulyEarly fog and frost inland. Isolated showers in the south and east clearing.
