MELBOURNE - Jul 19/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Nil. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A slow moving high [1028 hPa] near New Zealand extends a weakening ridge along the east Queensland coast. A trough is moving through central Queensland and will reach the east coast late Saturday. The next upstream high south of Western Australia will extend a ridge across central and western Queensland in the wake of the trough. Forecast for the rest of Saturday Isolated showers in eastern districts, tending scattered over the southeast. Rain areas and isolated thunderstorms over the southern interior, spreading towards the coast during the day. Isolated showers and patchy rain areas over the central areas of the state. Light to moderate southeast to southwest winds in the tropics, tending fresh over the northeast coast. Light to moderate northeast to northwest winds elsewhere in the east. A cooler southwesterly change over remaining districts, spreading to eastern districts during the afternoon and evening. Forecast for Sunday Dry, cool and windy conditions in the wake of the trough across most of the state with extensive early frost patches in the southern interior. Cloud is expected to increase over northern parts from late Sunday ahead of a strengthening upper trough, with some isolated showers about the northeast Queensland coast in the moist onshore flow and rain developing over the far north. Strong winds developing in the Gulf of Carpentaria as the next upstream high extends a ridge into western Queensland. Forecast for Monday The upper trough is expected to move slowly across southern Queensland, increasing cloud from the northwest to the southeast of the state and generating some patchy rain in the northern and eastern areas of the state. Isolated showers about the northeast in the onshore flow. Cool and dry over the interior with widespread early frost areas over the southern interior. Strong winds over the southern Gulf of Carpentaria, and extending to the Peninsula waters as the high in the Bight moves north into central Australia. Forecast for Tuesday A upper trough will intensify with cloudy conditions and patchy rain continuing across the northern and eastern areas of the state. Cool and dry over the interior with widespread early frost areas over the southern interior. Strong winds over the southern Gulf of Carpentaria over the east coast north of about Cairns. Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday The upper trough will move off the coast on Wednesday with fine and sunny conditions prevailing across most of the state, apart from some isolated showers about the far northeast coast. A high pressure system will move through southeastern Australia, leading to onshore winds along the Queensland coast and isolated showers developing over eastern districts later in the week. Otherwise conditions should be fine and dry across the remainder of the state. Cool southeasterly winds over the interior with some early frost areas in southern and central parts. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Saturday.
