MELBOURNE - Jul 17/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A strong, slow-moving high pressure system over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge into northeastern New South Wales. A deep low pressure trough across South Australia will move steadily eastwards through NSW during the next few days. An an associated cold front is expected to reach the state's western border this morning, continuing to the coast by early Saturday. This system is forecast to bring a significant cold outbreak to the region over the weekend. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayRain areas and isolated thunderstorms developing near the South Australian border this morning, extending eastwards and becoming more widespread during the afternoon to reach the eastern Riverina and Central West Plains tonight. Thunderstorms possibly severe with damaging wind gusts. Isolated showers over the southern slopes and ranges, and along the north coast. Partly cloudy elsewhere. North to northwesterly winds, fresh to strong and gusty in the west and south.Friday 19 JulyRain and thunderstorms in central and eastern parts, most widespread along the western slopes of the ranges. Rain falling as snow on the Alps above 1400 metres by the end of the day. Isolated showers over the western inland. Fresh to strong and gusty north to northwesterly winds, turning more westerly later.Saturday 20 JulyCold. Isolated showers over the eastern half of the state, tending scattered over the slopes and ranges. Showers falling as snow above 800 metres over the southern and central ranges by the end of the day. Small hail also possible. Isolated thunderstorms over the far northeast and far southern parts of the state. Fine across the western inland. Fresh to strong and gusty southwest to northwesterly winds.Sunday 21 JulyCold. Isolated showers over the eastern half of the state, mainly about the slopes and plains. Showers tending scattered over the southern slopes and ranges. Showers falling as snow above about 600 or 700 metres over the southern and central ranges. Fine across the western inland.
