MELBOURNE - Jul 17/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system will deepen over waters south of the Bight tonight with an associated trough approaching western Victoria. The trough will cross Victoria on Thursday as the low passes to the southwest of Victoria. A front will cross the State on Friday, with a cold and unstable west to southwesterly winds extending across the State during Saturday. Winds will tend more southerly during Sunday as a new centre low forms over the Tasman Sea. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayIsolated showers or drizzle patches about the northeast ranges. A band of rain reaching the far western border towards midnight. Northerly winds freshening over western and central districts overnight.Thursday 18 JulyA band of rain extending eastwards across the State reaching the far east at night. The chance of thunderstorms over the north. Isolated drizzle about the eastern ranges ahead of the rain band and isolated showers following the rain over the southwest. Local heavy falls possible over the northeast. A mild to warm day with strong and gusty north to northwesterly winds.Friday 19 JulyRain and isolated thunderstorms over the east clearing eastwards during the morning, with scattered showers to follow over all districts. Possible hail and thunder near the southwest coast late in the day and snowfalls lowering to 1200 metres. Northwest winds shifting colder westerly.Saturday 20 JulyScattered showers mainly on and south of the ranges with local hail and thunder. Snowfalls down to 800 metres. Cool to cold with moderate to fresh northwest to southwesterly winds.Sunday 21 JulyScattered showers and possible hail over southern and mountain districts. Isolated showers over the northern plains. Showers falling as snow above 800 metres.
